June 27th is designated as National Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) awareness day. Some people develop PTSD when they are exposed or witness something traumatic like war, physical violence, sexual violence, auto accidents, and other scary, dangerous, and shocking events. According to the National Center for PTSD, about seven or eight of every 100 people will experience PTSD in their lifetime, and anyone can develop PTSD at any age.

The IDEA center recognizes the tremendous challenges faced by individuals who experience PTSD, particularly active duty soldiers. Our collaboration with Clark Realty Capital on the Wounded Warrior Home Project at Fort Belvoir, VA sought to improve the quality of life for these individuals. These homes went beyond accessible design and incorporated universal design features in order to provide enhanced usability for everyone.c
