Graduate Assistant Studies Queer Inclusion in Churches

LGBTQ flag flying infront of church
LGBTQ Pride Month commemorates the anniversary of the Stonewall Riot in New York City, which took place on June 28, 1969, and is widely recognized as the incident that initiated the modern gay rights movement in the United States. In honor of this, the IDEA Center would like to showcase the master’s thesis of Taylor Mortorff, one of our graduate assistants. Titled “Welcoming Church Spaces: Queer Inclusion in the Christian Church Building,” Taylor’s thesis explores the characteristics of church environments that make them appear welcoming to users, especially LGBTQ Christians. In addition, Taylor has developed design strategies for churches that might make LGBTQ Christians feel more welcomed.
