IDEA Center Participates in the Transportation Research Board’s 2019 Conference on Health and Active Transportation
On December 11-12, 2019, the Transportation Research Board convened the 2019 Conference on Health and Active Transportation at the National Academy of Sciences Keck Center in Washington, DC. Sponsored by the Joint Subcommittee on Health & Transportation, the Committee on Pedestrians, and the Committee on Bicycle Transportation, the conference brought together leaders from the transportation and health disciplines. The goal was to enhance the understanding of the institutional opportunities and barriers for considering health and health equity within the transportation field. The need to integrate health into transportation continues to grow with greater acceptance of the influence of transportation policy and infrastructure on health behaviors and outcomes. The two-day meeting had the following themes: Building Strategic Institutional Relationships; Identifying Research Needs and Opportunities; and, Reflecting on Innovative Practices.
Jordana Maisel, Director of Research at the IDEA Center, participated in the Reflecting on Innovative Practices plenary session with other colleagues from government, industry, and academia. The panel was moderated by Amy Plovnick, Community Planner, Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, U.S. Department of Transportation.
