Children’s museums have a diverse mission, including an introduction to history, culture, technology and the arts. In addition, they have to provide a unique experience to compete with the many other competing interests for a child and family’s time. The work of the studio will be coordinated with a local group that operates a min-children’s museum, Explore n’ More. They have been chosen to develop and operate a children’s museum at Canalside, tentatively called Buffalo n’More. Initial studies have been completed and a development plan is underway. Architects and creative consultants are working with Explore n”More to complete the plan. The new museum is expected to open in 2016. The studio will benefit from the participation of both the Explore n’More and Canalside development staff and consultants.
The major project will focus on developing design concepts and communicating them in a meaningful way for the Buffalo n’More Museum. The Explore n’More and Canalside staff and consultants will act as “clients” for the project, presenting their existing ideas in an initial briefing and attending reviews.
